A Peek Into: “Orange Is The New Black”

Season 4 of Orange Is The New Black (OITNB) returns next week. So I figured this was as good a time as any to review one of my favorite TV-series. Back in 2013 when the series was first released I decided to watch it because the people behind it had also made Weeds. Now, I loved weeds (okay the last season was so-so) but everything else was good, and I figured that if Weeds was good, then OITNB must be good too. And it sure is. OITNB has some of the greatest characters and some really witty lines. Each season has been good so far, and the story line still captivates me. If you’re late to the OITNB party then I hope this post will be helpful in figuring out if you should give it a shot or not.

So what is Orange Is The New Black about?

This series is actually based on a true story. Well loosely at least… The main character is Piper Chapman, a thirty something woman who is happily engaged to a great guy and is trying to launch a soap business. She has a pretty ‘regular’ life. Or so it seems. Her past unfortunately catches up with her because she gets arrested for an old crime she once committed for an ex-girlfriend, and is sentenced to 15 month in prison, specifically; Litchfield Correctional Facility. Now, behind bars, Piper is forced to face a lot of new realities; Crazy inmates, identity crisis, prison politics, long distance relationship, corrupted guards and her ex-girlfriend who ratted her out. OITNB is generally about life in a female correctional facility and all that carries with it.

Watch it if

You liked the TV-show Weeds. I can definitely see some of the humor from Weeds in this show as well. It has some really fun characters and they will certainly make you laugh too. It will also definitely make you question a lot about what ‘serving time’ means. And lastly watch it because it has some great actors. If you do decide to start watching it, make sure you have some time because you will want to binge it!
